Lens Implants in Huntsville

As the years roll by, most people experience decline in vision to some extent. Two of the more common causes of eyesight decline, cataracts and presbyopia, can be offset by the removal of the natural lenses and subsequent lens implants. The surgeons at Huntsville Center for Sight have gained much experience in treating diminishing vision with the removal of natural lenses and replacing them with multifocal intraocular lenses. To learn if lens implants are the best option for you, contact the Huntsville Center for Sight today.

What are multifocal intraocular lenses?

Intraocular lenses, or IOLs, are artificial lenses that are used to replace natural lenses that have been removed as a result of cataracts, presbyopia, or simply poor eyesight. While traditional IOLs offer improved vision at only one distance (either near, intermediate, or far), multifocal IOLs offer a way to improve sight at varying distances, eliminating the need for glasses or contacts.

The surgeons who perform lens implants at the Huntsville Center for Sight trust multifocal IOLs and newer technologies to provide the best results for patients. ReZoom® and ReSTOR® multifocal lens have consistently proven to provide outstanding results. Even newer technologies, such as TECNIS™ and SN60 lenses are also becoming more popular due to their effectiveness. The benefits of these lens implants allow patients to be largely independent of eyeglasses and other types of corrective lenses. Each of these multifocal intraocular lens implant options meet individual eye health and lifestyle needs.

The Intraocular Lens Procedure

One of the many advantages of lens implants performed at the Huntsville Center for Sight is the short time that it takes to complete, which is typically less than an hour. The first part of the lens implants procedure requires the natural lenses to be removed; for cataract patients, normal cataract surgery techniques are employed. After the lenses have been removed, the IOL is implanted through a tiny incision. Typically, the IOL is folded to fit through the incision, then opened up into its permanent position.

The procedure is performed under a local anesthetic that assures the patient's comfort.
